ConvertXtoDVD2 by ScubaPete
Wake up gang, it's finally here, ~ Much better than one could ever have hoped for ~
("Pssst", Hey man, look at that, ScubaPete's up and at it again, What's he wound up about now ?)
OK you, back there in the corner, yes, you. ! I heard that. Are you telling me you haven't heard about VSO's release of their new "Baby" ?
You haven't ?
Well listen up, . . . . We've been using VSO's DivXToDVD for years and we all know it as a pretty darn good program. It is able to take formats such as DivX, Xvid, MOV, VOB, Mpeg, Mpeg4, AVI, WMV, DV and stream formats and with a few steps, convert them to a DVD complainant format, ready to burn AND it did so in a fairly quick period of time. We enjoyed their updates and improvements over time and we paid nothing at all for its use. Well they've continued to work on it behind the scenes and have come up with ConvertXtoDVD2 ~ This baby is, in a word, "AWESOME" ! !
The Announcement:
ConvertXtoDVD2 is a must have tool for people who wish to take home movies, film clips, Windows Media Video files (WMV) OR AVI and Divx files from an Internet download and convert them, adding chapters along the way and burn them to a standalone playable DVD. Sounds good you say ? You haven't heard anything yet ! Not only does it do all that BUT it does it with just one single mouse click, automatically AND it does it at more than twice the speed of the old DivxToDVD.
Get ConvertXtoDVD2 from VSO Software here:

How to use ConvertXtoDVD2:
What's this about it being so easy? After opening the program, you can either click on the "+" icon OR go to "File" and select "Add video file" and browse for your files OR you can just drag and drop your files into the program's window. Yep, just "Drag and Drop", it doesn't get easier. Once you've assigned a burner to the program, all you need do after "Dragging and Dropping" your files into the program's window is, click on the "Convert" button. Everything after that is automatic. ConvertXtoDVD takes your files, rendering them into DVD Compatible files, while adding chapters in predetermined locations and when the rendering is finished, your finished product is burned to disc. There is nothing for you to do ~ Nothing !
ConvertXtoDVD2's Video Preview window:
Oooppps, I almost forgot, for those who want something to do, Go to "Windows" on the tool bar and select "Video Preview." Good, now you may watch your video while it is being rendered. :) I'm only trying to help (Lol)
Guide to ConvertXtoDVD2 Program settings:
Fasfrank Note:
The text in BLUE will open a new picture on the right!
Just pass your cursor over the blue links, DO NOT CLICK!!
Try it by placing your cursor over the "Welcome" link
"Welcome!"
Iffin you wish to use those program settings that have given you such good results in the past, it's as easy as can be. "Click" on the "Settings" on the tool bar then go to the General tab and "Browse" for your regular working folder. If you don't have one, . . . . Huuuumm, What's that you say? You don't have one? I thought everyone on this side of the planet had a working folder, . . . . ~ (Heh, heh, sorry my friend, I couldn't resist having a spot "O" fun with your fine self :)
Alrighty then, back to the program ~ Do not despair if you don't have a specific work folder, all you need do is to create a folder on your Desktop and name it something you can always remember. I named mine, "All DVD Work", After browsing for, finding and selecting your folder, your work under this tab is finished. "Click" on the "Chapters" tab.
Now I like chapters fairly close on my projects so I set "Insert chapters" for every 5 minutes for any videos over 10 minutes. It is THAT easy!
Next, let's click on the "TV Format" tab. Now select the type of "Video Standard" you would like, either NTSC or PAL. Under the "TV Screen," select "Automatic", "Widescreen" OR "Full Screen," your choice for your finished product.
Now, to the "Burning" tab. Here I'll set "Burn results to DVD" with a "Tick" so that I won't have to go back later and burn it separately. While I'm here, I'll also tell it which of my burners to use and I'll set my burn speed for 4X. This is to avoid those annoying errors that are common when burning faster, no matter what speed media is used. I also "Tick" "Add original files to DVD (if possible)" and I "Tick," "Delete folder after successful burn" to reduce the amount of space used on my HD.
If you wish to provide some input that can help VSO improve ConvertXtoDVD2, then "Tick" the bottom box to send some basic, non-traceable, non-specific information to VSO for their tech support to analyze.
Next, the "Subtitles" tab is to set your default language and, if you wish, you can personalize your ConvertXtoDVD2 by selecting your own fonts, I like "Comic Sans MS".
Under the "Audio" tab, the default language is English BUT you may choose any language you wish from the 100 PLUS choices available. (Lol) :)
My last stop will be at the "Encoding" tab where I'll change the DVD "Target size" from the default to "Custom" with a value of 4360MB.
A Note about DVD Target Size
VSO has set their DVD-5 target size default setting at "4400 MB". They, like most quality software manufacturers, assume that the majority of those doing video work are using only the best media for their projects. I use top-of-the-line media (i.e. Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden discs) for my work, even so, I've chosen to set my target size at "CUSTOM" and set my size to 4360 MB using the "Drop-down" window to allow myself an extra margin of safety.
If you are using anything less than a "top-of-the-line" media, I suggest you reset your DVD target size to "CUSTOM" and type "4300 MB" in as the size of your DVD target setting.
IMPORTANT: Even some good media's dye application can be a little uneven toward the outer edge of the disc. This is even more the case when using average or below average media. Allowing yourself a bit 'o room, by not burning to the disc's edge, will insure you an error free, good playing DVD. Discs such as Memorex may require you to reset the DVD target size as far back as 4200 MB OR, if errors still persist, back as far as 4100 MB.
One thing more ~ Click "OK" at the bottom and Viola`, you're finished, you've no real reason to ever go back into settings unless there's something special you wish to do.
What happened to the old DivxToDVD? It's still there and it's still free BUT for just $29.99 (USD), you get to do everything the old one did, with a single click and at twice the ease and twice the speed.
The Deal:
Here's the deal, go to VSO's site and download ConvertXtoDVD2, fire that "Big Dog" up and turn it loose ~ "Wheeee !" Work with it for a full week, see for yourself what has changed so much AND what a "must have" program is really like. If you like it, buy the license for $29.99 (USD) and get unlimited upgrades for the next year (No, the unlocked program is yours forever - the upgrades just stop after a year). Compare it to everything else on the market, compare it against the Free DivxToDVD that people have raved about for years and see for yourself how much you're getting for so little $$$$ :)
It's a winner and has the ScubaPete's, "Highly recommended" (a must have) rating.
