A Guide to the various features at Afterdawn

Afterdawn.com has quite a few things that you should be familiar with if you plan on using the site. You may want to make a post, then edit it. You may want to put an image in your post or have a animated Gif in your signature. I'll try and go over some of these things.

Changing the text with "Afterdawn Tags"

Making your text Bold.
If you want your text to look like this just enclose it in these tags: [b]your text here[/b] will become your text here. Note the forward slash in the "closing tag. Don't forget it.

Italics add emphasis!
Enclose your text in these tags [i]your text here[/i]and it becomes your text here.

Combine the two by Nesting the Tags!
Like this: [b][i]your text here[/i][/b] Becomes your text here. Note the "nesting" of the tags. The first tag used should have it's closing tag last.

The next item is the Quote Tag.
Use it when you want to, what else, quote someone! If it is from another post, just copy and paste it into your reply and surround it with these: [quote]quoted text goes in here![/quote] it will look sort of like this:

Quote

quoted text goes in here!

Well thats about as close as I can make it look here.

Adding images to your posts, replies and to your signature.

This can be difficult but if you can break it down into steps then you should be OK.
First you need to find an image that is on-line. What you are going to do is link to that image.
The tag that Afterdawn uses is the [img] tag. Of course, like all tags, it needs a closing tag like this: [/img]. Between the tags you must put the url of the image you want to use, so you need to get the address! Try right clicking the image you want to use and select "properties". That should bring up the url of the image.

Here is an example from an image I have on line at this website:
[img]http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/images/flag.gif[/img]

That should bring up the image named flag.gif.....

Scuba FlagAnd here it is!

Adding an image into your signature:

  1. Click on the "My Account" Tab.
  2. Next, click on "Edit your personal details". (Find this right below the tabs)
  3. Now scroll down to the signature block and add the url of the image between
some [img]Your URL goes here[/img] tags and click SAVE.
  4. It should look like this:
    signature UBB code
  5. Your image will now appear on your next post or reply!

A word of friendly advice... Keep your signature images reasonably sized. Look at my signature pix and the images used by the other Senior Members, Addicts and Mods. That is what you are after.

Do exactly the same thing to add an image to your post or reply.
You can add screenshots or any other digital image that has an address. Just remember they need to be online and have a URL you can link to. Also bear in mind that many of the image sources you may find do not allow linking. You may have to ask someone (like me) who has a website to "host" it for you.

Adding an image into your Post:

Adding a screenshot like this one of DVD Shrink is easy. What I like to do is use a screen capture program and then post the image online. I use my website for that but there are online sites that will provide webspace for your images, photobucket.com is one that comes to mind. Follow the same tag format as before, using the [img]url[/img] format. When you do post an image leave a couple lines of clearance between the text and the image. Otherwise the text will be sitting on top of the image.
